A tidy little rebrand. A “focus” move. “Drop the T.” Like trans people are a bad line item on a budget. Like we are the messy part you cut so the board approves the deal.

If you are trans, you can feel the strategy in your bones: they are trying to turn our own community into the knife. They want exclusion to look like self-respect. They want abandonment to look like “boundaries.”

Here’s the truth they do not want you to say out loud: you do not get “LGB” rights without trans people being in the fight. And the people pushing this know it, which is why they are working so hard to make you forget. This is not a debate about letters. It is about who gets to be protected when the cultural weather changes.

What “Drop the T” actually means

“Drop the T” is not a random internet opinion. It shows up as petitions, organizations, talking points, and institutional policy choices. It is a political wedge dressed up as a community conversation.

When it popped up as a petition years ago, major LGBTQ organizations rejected it for exactly what it is: a push to dissociate from trans people and trans issues. If you need receipts, start here: reporting on those petitions and the community response is widely documented, including public statements rejecting the idea. (The Advocate coverage)

More recently, the “drop the T” framing has been promoted and normalized by groups that explicitly position trans rights as a threat to lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals. The UK’s LGB Alliance, founded in 2019, is one of the most visible examples, and it has been described in multiple sources as opposing trans inclusion. (LGB Alliance overview, LGB Alliance self-description, University of Liverpool analysis)

Different country, same play. Separate the coalition. Split the target. Make the most vulnerable person stand alone in the street. Then call it “reasonable.”

The respectability scam

“Drop the T” always comes wrapped in the same soft language:

“We just have different issues.”

“This is about same-sex attraction.”

“Trans rights are going too far.”

“We are losing support because of you.”

It is respectability politics with a rainbow filter. It is the idea that if the community acts “normal” enough, power will treat us fairly. That is not how this has ever worked.

When politicians want to roll back rights, they do not start with the group that is easiest to defend. They start with the group that is easiest to isolate. Trans people are being isolated because we are being used as the acceptable sacrifice. The bargain being offered is simple: keep your seat at the table, but do not look too closely at who got pushed out of the room.

They are not just arguing. They are erasing.

If you want to understand how “letters” turn into real-world harm, look at what happens when institutions decide trans people are optional to history.

In February 2025, GLAAD and the Stonewall Inn publicly condemned the removal of the word “transgender” from the Stonewall National Monument website and called for it to be restored. That is not symbolic. That is a federal platform deciding what counts as reality. (GLAAD statement)

In February 2026, the National Park Service removed a large Pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument flagpole. Local officials and advocates described it as part of a broader pattern of LGBTQ erasure and rollback. (Reuters report, The Washington Post report)

This is what I mean when I say “discarded.” It starts as discourse. It becomes policy. Then it becomes what your little cousin learns in school, what your doctor feels safe saying in an exam room, what your employer thinks will not cause “controversy,” what a landlord can justify, what a judge can rationalize. When they remove us from the story, they remove us from the protections that come from being part of the public’s moral imagination.

Who gets blamed first

Trans people are constantly treated like the spark, even when we are just the scapegoat. If something goes wrong, if a headline breaks, if a tragedy happens, there is always a rush to turn “trans” into the explanation for everything. Not guns. Not poverty. Not alienation. Not institutions failing. Not political radicalization.

Transness becomes the convenient villain because it is the easiest one to sell. The people trying to “remove the T” are betting that, in that moment, you will choose the path of least resistance. They are betting you will say, “That is not my fight.” But it is. The same machine that targets trans people today does not stop because you handed over the trans people. It stops when it meets consequences. It stops when it meets coalition. It stops when it meets refusal.

“Different issues” is a lie. The issues are welded together.

Let’s be practical for a second. When you fight discrimination, you do not get to pick which kind is “pure.” The systems do not separate neatly into categories. Schools do not. Employers do not. Healthcare does not. Housing does not. Government does not.

The same political forces pushing anti-trans policy are rarely just “anti-trans.” They are also pushing censorship, restricting sex education, limiting bodily autonomy, narrowing civil rights enforcement, and emboldening harassment. Sometimes they say the quiet part out loud. Sometimes they hide it behind “parental rights” or “common sense.” “Drop the T” does not protect gay and bisexual people from that machine. It helps the machine.

The ugliest part: trans people are being asked to accept our own exile

I have watched this happen in real time: the soft, slow emotional abandonment. It is not always a slur. Sometimes it is a sigh. Sometimes it is silence. Sometimes it is a polite distance.

It is the way a person who once said “family” suddenly starts talking like a pundit. It is the way “I love you” turns into “I just have questions,” but the questions are always a courtroom cross-examination.

It is being told, in a thousand tiny ways, that your existence is a public relations problem. That is what being discarded feels like. Not a single door slam. A whole hallway of doors that quietly stop opening.

No LGB without the T

If you want a movement that can survive pressure, you do not amputate the people who are easiest to target. You protect them. If you want “LGB” rights to remain rights, not privileges on a temporary lease, you do not teach power that it can divide the coalition on demand.

If you are LGB and you are tempted to go along with this, I need you to understand what you are signing up for. You are not choosing “focus.” You are choosing a worldview where community membership is conditional. Where belonging is performance. Where the most vulnerable person is always negotiable.

That is not liberation. That is a brand. No LGB without the T. Not historically. Not politically. Not morally. Not in any future worth building. The moment you accept that trans people can be cut out to make everyone else more comfortable, you have already agreed to the logic that one day will come for you too.

And the people pushing “Drop the T” know it. They are betting you forgot.

I have not. I will not.

They’re Using A Family’s Dead Bodies to Justify Hating Us… Again

The Pawtucket rink shooting didn’t “prove” anything about trans people.

The Real Mija

The Pawtucket rink shooting didn’t “prove” anything about trans people. Not because I am clairvoyant. Because I have lived in America long enough to recognize the script. A tragedy happens, bodies hit the floor, and before the blood is even dry the same people who shrug at gun violence every other day suddenly become deeply concerned about “public safety.”

Not the kind that asks about guns. Not the kind that asks about domestic violence. Not the kind that asks why a personal dispute became a public execution. The kind that asks, immediately, whether we can use this to hate trans people louder. This week’s excuse came out of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

What happened, in plain language

On February 16, 2026, shots were fired during a youth hockey game at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. Authorities described it as a targeted attack. Two people were killed, the shooter’s ex-wife and adult son. Three other people were injured. The shooter died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. (AP News) Police identified the suspect as Robert Dorgan, and reporting noted the suspect also went by Roberta. (NBC Boston) There are also accounts of bystanders confronting the shooter, a split-second intervention that likely prevented an even higher body count. (NBC Boston) That is what happened. What came next is what always happens.

The internet did what it always does

Before some families even got the call they will never forget, the content machine started chewing. Not “how did this escalate.” Not “why was this person able to do this in a crowded public space.” Not “what do we do about domestic violence risk, threat assessment, and gun access.”

It was: trans trans trans trans trans. Because scapegoats are cheaper than solutions, and outrage is an economy now. And the thing about scapegoats is that they are not about truth. They are about utility.

This was a domestic violence shooting with a gun, not a referendum on trans people

Strip away the bait headline and you are left with something grimly familiar. A targeted family attack. An ex-wife. A son. A public setting. A gun. Suicide at the end. (AP News)

That is not “trans ideology.” That is not pronouns. That is domestic violence escalation plus easy lethality. If anyone actually cared about “protecting families,” the conversation would start with the boring, effective stuff: early intervention, enforcement, protective measures, and keeping firearms out of volatile situations. But that conversation is harder. It requires policy. It requires admitting that “good guy with a gun” fantasies do not reverse time once bullets are already flying. So instead we get the easier product: hate.

The part they keep skipping because it wrecks the narrative

Here is where the story gets even uglier, because it becomes impossible to pretend this is some clean morality tale about “trans danger.” There has been reporting that the shooter’s background and online footprint included far-right signaling, with images circulating that showed neo-Nazi-associated tattoos, raising questions about extremist alignment and motivation. (BostonGlobe.com)

That matters, not because it makes the story simple, but because it makes the public reaction even more dishonest. Because when the killer looks like the kind of person your movement often incubates, the propaganda machine has to improvise. So it does.

MAGA’s reflex is not grief. It is damage control.

Watch how fast the story splits into two tracks. Track one: “See, trans people are violent.” Track two, the moment the shooter’s far-right ties become harder to ignore: “false flag,” “psyop,” “fake trans,” “it doesn’t count.” That is the scam. Transness becomes a costume they can put on the killer when it helps their narrative, and rip off the killer when it makes their side look radioactive. It is propaganda triage, not analysis.

There has already been reporting on MAGA-aligned online commentary rushing to frame the suspect through a political lens, including discussion around accounts linked to the suspect interacting with prominent far-right figures and themes, and the predictable pile-on trying to turn the entire incident into a cudgel against trans people. (Newsweek)

This is why “false flag” is such a useful lie. It does not have to prove anything. It just has to keep your audience emotionally addicted and permanently suspicious of reality. The moment you can convince people that everything is an op, you never have to take responsibility for anything.

Gun worship is not neutral. It is ideology.

America has a gun problem. But it also has a gun culture problem, and those are not the same thing. Owning something is bad. Worshiping guns is worse. MAGA did not just inherit gun culture. It turned it into identity. A gun becomes a personality, a promise, a threat. You are told, explicitly and constantly, that the answer to fear is more firepower, and the answer to conflict is dominance.

When that is the cultural water people swim in, tragedies like Pawtucket are not inexplicable lightning strikes. They are a predictable consequence of a society that treats lethal access as sacred, and prevention as optional. So yes, the shooter’s identity matters in the literal sense that it is a fact of the case. But it is not the lesson. It is not the cause. It is not the explanation. The explanation is that someone who wanted to kill had the means to do it quickly, in public, with catastrophic effect. (AP News)

What would actually make people safer

If anyone is serious about preventing the next Pawtucket, here is the list that actually matters:

Treat domestic violence escalation like the high-risk predictor it is.

Build real off-ramps for people in crisis before the breaking point becomes a crime scene.

Close the gaps that let firearms remain easily available during volatile, escalating conflicts.

Fund threat assessment and intervention, especially when risk is documented and predictable.

Stop using dead families as props for culture-war content.

You can hold two truths at the same time: a trans person committed an atrocity, and trans people are not the problem. If your entire analysis begins and ends with “trans,” you are not analyzing. You are recruiting.

Do not let them use the dead twice

Two people were killed. Three more were injured. A community that came to watch kids play a game got a nightmare instead. (AP News) While people are trying to survive that reality, the hate machine is trying to monetize it.

So let me say this cleanly, before the propaganda hardens into “common sense” the way it always does: This tragedy is not a permission slip to hate trans people. It is proof, again, of what happens when guns are easy, domestic violence is ignored, and scapegoats are cheaper than solutions.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911.
In the U.S., you can call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If you are experiencing domestic violence, contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1–800–799–7233 or text START to 88788.

They’re Using Dead Kids to Justify Hating Us… Again.

The Tumbler Ridge shooting didn’t “prove” The details are still coming in, the motive is still being investigated, and the country is still in shock. (The Guardian)

And like clockwork, the internet did what it always does when tragedy is fresh and facts are still warm: it tried to turn this into a referendum on an entire community. Because the alleged shooter was trans we get the same ugly cycle: the dead become props, the living become targets, and trans people everywhere are told to answer for something they did not do. (Newsweek)

The Most “Controversial” Part Should Not Be Pronouns

One of the strangest subplots in the first 48 hours was the outrage that local authorities didn’t immediately misgender the shooter.

People are furious that police identified the suspect “as they chose to be identified in public and in social media,” with RCMP Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald stating the shooter began transitioning roughly six years ago and identified as female publicly. (Newsweek)

Let me say this plainly: respecting someone’s stated identity is not a “reward.” It’s not a gold star. It’s not a political statement. It’s basic informational accuracy. If we can manage to refer to cis people correctly while reporting horrific crimes, we can manage it here too.

The idea that pronouns are the headline is a confession. It tells you exactly what some people were waiting for: permission to be cruel. Permission to hate, beat, and kill Trans people.

If You Want to Talk About “Why,” Start With the Weapon

If we actually care about preventing the next one, the questions write themselves:

How did an 18-year-old obtain the firearms used in the attack?

What were the warning signs, and what interventions happened or didn’t happen?

Why do we keep treating mass shooting risk like a surprise weather event?

Reporting has pointed to prior law enforcement interactions related to mental health concerns and prior seizure of firearms at the residence, with additional details still being investigated. (Global News)

That is where the conversation belongs. Not on “gotcha” debates about gender identity. Because a gun is not an emotion. A gun is not a pronoun. A gun is a tool engineered to end life fast. A gun is a tool of cowards and colonizers. A gun is not a Trans child that wants to be accepted.

The Real Backlash Is the Collective Punishment

Here’s what people miss on purpose: when the suspect is trans, the public reaction is not “How did this happen?” It becomes “What’s wrong with trans people?” That’s not analysis, it’s scapegoating.

And it doesn’t stay abstract. It turns into harassment at school board meetings, slurs in comment sections, calls to roll back rights, and a fresh wave of “See? We told you” content from accounts that were never going to treat us as human anyway. (Newsweek) This is collective punishment dressed up as concern, a Trans genocide disguised as “Protecting the children”

Rejection Doesn’t Pull the Trigger, But It Builds the Cage

I need to be careful here because I’m not interested in romanticizing violence. What happened was wrong. Full stop. The dead deserve more than an argument. But I also refuse the lazy story that being trans is the cause.

Trans people live inside a pressure cooker: constant scrutiny, political demonization, “debates” about whether we should exist in public, and a culture that treats our identities as a provocation. When you grow up in a world that keeps telling you you’re an abomination, you don’t come out of that untouched. That doesn’t excuse harm. It explains why “just be normal” is not a solution.

It explains why rejection, isolation, and humiliation are not harmless. They are fuel. It doesnt exuse the harm, but it can help explain it. When people say, “violence is the language of the oppressed,” I understand why that line travels. It’s describing a feeling: the moment when someone believes no one will hear them unless something breaks.

The Hard Truth: The Community Being Punished Is Not the One Holding the Gun

If you’re genuinely horrified by this shooting, then act like it:

Talk about firearms access and enforcement failures.

Talk about credible threat reporting and intervention that actually works.

Talk about mental health systems that don’t just “assess” people and then drop them back into the same conditions.

Talk about social isolation, bullying, and the way communities treat being Trans as contamination.

But don’t use this tragedy as a permission slip to go hunting for trans people to blame. Because blaming the Trans community is convenient. It gives people a villain they already wanted. It lets them avoid the uncomfortable questions about weapons, policy, systems, and accountability. And it guarantees we learn nothing.

What I Want, Even If You Hate Hearing It

I want a world where trans kids are not treated like public threats for existing. I want a world where we don’t have to prove our humanity by being perfect victims. I want a world where “respecting identity” is so normal it never makes the news.

And I want a world where the first response to a mass shooting is not to ask, “What minority can we punish?” but “How did the shooter get the means to do this, and what failed upstream?” Because if we keep doing this the same way, we will keep getting the same ending. And nobody gets to call that “protecting children.”

Gavin Newsom, “Dark Woke,” and Why the $100 Kneepads Are a Homophobic Joke Wearing So no, this is not a stray intern’s product idea. This is the point.

What the kneepads really mean

People keep trying to sanitize this by calling it “a metaphor for appeasement.” Sure. That is the polite version.

The real joke is dirtier and more blunt: a man on his knees for another man is being framed as humiliating. “Kneepads” is a visual punchline for “you are servicing him.” It is meant to conjure the image of fellatio. It is meant to make the audience smirk because the insult is sexual. The insult only works if you accept the premise that a man giving another man oral sex is something to look down on. That premise is homophobia. Period.

You can try to dress it up as “power dynamics” or “dominance language,” but the emotional payload is the same. The joke lands because it relies on a social rule that says: gay sex equals shame. A man being sexually submissive equals disgrace. Being “the one on his knees” equals lower status. That is not clever. That is not brave. That is an ancient prejudice being resold as a clapback.

Locker room and boardroom talk: the same hierarchy, different lighting

This is straight male status policing. It has always worked like this: you enforce masculinity by humiliating anything coded as feminine, submissive, or queer.

In locker room culture, that is the casual “that’s so gay” and the constant sorting of who is “real” and who is “soft.” Researchers have documented how homophobic language is often used as a tool to protect masculinity and status, even when speakers are not literally discussing sexual orientation (University of Oregon summary on homophobic language and masculinity policing).

In boardrooms, the language gets cleaner, but the structure stays the same. You hear “weak,” “spineless,” “groveling,” “bending the knee.” Still dominance. Still humiliation. Still a hierarchy where standing is power and kneeling is disgrace. Newsom turned that hierarchy into merch. Kneeling is sexualized in modern insult culture, this is not just “calling out surrender.” It is using gay-coded sexual humiliation to make the surrender feel dirty and laughable.

“Dark woke” is the excuse, not the strategy

This kneepads stunt fits into what commentators have been calling “dark woke,” a trend that encourages liberals to be more vicious, more mocking, and more “politically incorrect” in response to Trumpism, because people think it performs better online (GQ on “dark woke”).

That is the trap. “Dark woke” gives people moral cover to use language they already wanted to use. It rewards dunks. It rewards cruelty. It rewards viral humiliation over disciplined persuasion. Once you build your messaging around humiliation, it does not stay neatly aimed at Trump. It seeps into the culture and it lands on the same people who always get hit when “edgy” becomes fashionable: queer people, trans people, and anyone who does not fit the approved version of masculinity.

The bigger question: are Democrats trying to look less “queer”?

I cannot claim I know Gavin Newsom’s intent. But I can talk about incentives and signals. Right now, we are watching a broad pullback from visible LGBTQ support in corporate America. Pride organizers have reported sponsorship shortfalls, and major brands have reduced, withdrawn, or quietly minimized their public involvement. Some companies still fund Pride but ask not to be publicly credited, which is the definition of distancing without a press release (AP on companies retreating from Pride; Washington Post on brands pulling back and requesting anonymity; Forbes on sponsorship collapses and budget gaps).

Retail gives a concrete example of that drift. Target confirmed it reduced the number of stores carrying Pride merchandise after backlash (AP on Target limiting Pride merchandise in stores; see also AP on a more subdued Pride in stores). This is what institutions do when something becomes politically “toxic.” They do not always issue a formal statement. They just drift away. They get quieter. They stop making it a centerpiece. They wait for it to be forgotten.

That is where the McDonald’s “Grimace’s Birthday Month” example belongs. McDonald’s very explicitly promoted Grimace’s birthday celebration as a June campaign (McDonald’s corporate announcement for Grimace’s Birthday Meal). There was no formal statement like “we are replacing Pride.” That is not how corporations operate. They rarely say “we are backing away.” They simply pour attention into something safer until the risky thing fades from the foreground.

So when a major Democrat leans into a joke whose punchline depends on gay sex being degrading, it reads like politics mirroring the same risk-avoidance behavior: soften the association with queer culture by making “gay-coded humiliation” socially acceptable again, as long as it is pointed at the right enemies. Even if that is not the conscious plan, it is a real signal.

This Is Not a “Dunk.” It’s a Tell.

Let’s stop pretending the kneepads are just a metaphor for “appeasement.” They are a prop built to trigger a very specific image: a man on his knees for another man. The insult lands because the audience hears the sexual subtext immediately and the sexual subtext is the point. It is not “he’s compromising.” It is “he’s servicing him.” And the laugh comes from a rotten premise that has been baked into straight male culture forever: that a man performing oral sex on another man is degrading, humiliating, and worthy of ridicule.

That is homophobia. Not as a policy position, but as a social reflex. The casual kind that gets excused as “just jokes,” “just trash talk,” “just locker room,” “just a bit.” It is the same mechanism that made “gay” synonymous with “bad,” that used queerness as a tool to punish men for weakness, that treated sexual submission as shame and coded that shame as feminine or queer. When you package that mechanism as merch and sell it for $100, you are not fighting Trump. You are feeding the same culture that has always treated gayness as a punchline.

That is why Newsom’s kneepads do harm even if he thinks the target is safe. Because the joke does not punch Trump. The joke punches the idea of gay sex itself, using it as the humiliating image you are supposed to recoil from. The target is “capitulation,” but the weapon is queer-coded degradation. That is not a small detail. That is the entire payload.

And it is happening at a moment when institutions across American life are already drifting away from visible LGBTQ support. Companies do not always issue formal statements when they decide something is “too hot.” They quietly reduce Pride presence, they shrink sponsorships, they ask to stay unnamed, they redirect attention to safer campaigns, and they wait for the public to move on. That retreat is being reported by Pride organizers and major outlets, and it is increasingly described as brands minimizing exposure rather than proudly owning their position (AP; Washington Post; Forbes). Even Target has publicly described reducing Pride merchandise footprint in stores after backlash (AP).

So when a national-profile Democrat steps forward with a stunt that relies on gay-coded sexual humiliation, it raises an obvious question: is this part of a broader repositioning where Democrats try to look less culturally tied to queer and trans communities? Not by denouncing us outright, but by changing the vibe. By proving they can still speak the language of straight male contempt. By reassuring the skittish middle that they are not “too queer,” not “too Pride,” not “too associated” with the people conservative media has spent years turning into a moral panic.

That is what “dark woke” offers: a permission structure for that repositioning. It tells Democrats and liberal influencers they can be cruel again, they can be vulgar again, they can dunk again, and it will read as strength rather than as regression. It turns politics into content, and content into a competition for who can be meanest while claiming to be righteous. And the easiest cruelty to reach for, the most culturally legible cruelty, is the old stuff: sexual shame, homophobic residue, and the policing of masculinity.

If Gavin Newsom wants to run as a defender of democracy, he should understand this: you do not defend democracy by laundering prejudice into merch. You do not beat authoritarian contempt by borrowing the same contempt and pointing it at your enemies. You do not build a coalition by teaching the public, again, that gay sex is a degrading punchline.

The kneepads are not just a product. They are a signal. They signal what kind of cruelty is being allowed back into the room. And for queer and trans people, that signal is not abstract. It is a warning about what happens when “strategy” starts sounding like the people who have always hated us.

Doja Cat: Shock Value Known for her colorful, boundary-pushing antics that blend music, fashion, and theatrical flair, Doja Cat’s entrance into the sphere of social advocacy draws both adulation and scrutiny. As a trans Latina activist acutely aware of the nuances of such advocacy, I find myself wrestling with a critical question: does her support for the LGBTQ community surpass the sensational, or does it crumble under the weight of mere spectacle?

In an era where visibility for trans and queer individuals often comes coated in layers of tokenism, Doja Cat’s vocal support during events like Pride Month sends ripples through the community. As someone who lives the daily realities of intersectional oppression, witnessing a high-profile figure like Doja stepping into the role of an LGBTQ ally brings a mixture of hope and skepticism. For every stream of her viral hits, I wonder, do these tunes echo the anthems of real change, or are they merely well-packaged products timed for peak social media engagement?

Behind the Mask of Allyship

advocacy, and yes, specifically when it comes to the T in LGBTQ, trans rights. For many of us in the activist trenches, an ally without action is no ally at all. So, let’s decode the reality behind the glitz, has Kim truly stood with the trans community, or is it just surface-level solidarity?

Kim Kardashian has always managed a tightrope walk over the vast circus of media scrutiny and global fame. She has, without doubt, voiced her support for the LGBTQ community. Statements, tweets, and rainbow-lit posts during Pride Month have been duly noted. But when the glitter settles, and the parade buzz fades, the silence on more urgent, life-threatening issues like trans rights becomes deafening.

As I reflect on my own journey as a trans Latina navigating both systemic barriers and daily indignities, Kim’s broad-stroke allegiance feels painfully insufficient. Let’s state the obvious: being an LGBTQ ally means advocating for all letters of the acronym.

The Silence Speaks Volumes

This is TheRealMija taking you through another journey of analysis, provocations, and calls to action. Today, we delve into the world of Jenna Ortega, known recently for her iconic role as Wednesday Addams but also stepping up as a vocal supporter of LGBTQ rights. But we need to ask: Is she truly a champion for all, including the trans community? Let’s unpack this.

Jenna Ortega has captured hearts with her portrayal as the ghoulish and unapologetically blunt Wednesday Addams, but her off-screen role might be just as impactful, standing as a beacon of support in the LGBTQ community. But, as we’ve seen all too often, supporting ‘LGBTQ rights’ can sometimes exclude the T, and that’s what we must examine.

Actions Speak Louder

activism: Miley Cyrus. Known for her pop hits and a life spent under the Hollywood microscope, Cyrus has utilized her massive platform for a cause that resonates deeply with many, including myself, a fierce advocacy for trans rights.

From vibrant performances to outspoken social media blasts, Miley Cyrus has never shied away from supporting the LGBTQ+ community, with a notable emphasis on transgender rights. During Pride Month and beyond, she is not just a performer; she transforms into a megaphone for those often muffled by society. As a trans Latina myself, witnessing Cyrus railing against oppressive systems offers more than hope, it ignites a fire of solidarity that burns even amid the darkest times.

Her advocacy isn’t a mere occasional shout-out. It’s a loud, proud, and continuous roar. Her efforts go beyond the stage, Cyrus founded the Happy Hippie Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ+ youth, and other vulnerable populations. Through initiatives like these, she amplifies voices that are routinely silenced, pushing their narratives to the forefront of national dialogues.

Connecting Personal Pain to Systemic Injustice

conspicuously silent. As we traverse Pride Month, festooned with rainbows and declarations of support, one can’t help but notice the paradox presented by Jacob Elordi, the magnetic co-star of Euphoria, a show that prides itself on progressive narratives around gender and sexuality.

Elordi, who has captured hearts as the troubled and complex Nate Jacobs, operates within a narrative brimming with queer representation. Yet, despite the gravitational pull of his platform, there’s a notable absence in his advocacy, particularly concerning trans rights, a silence that echoes through the chambers of unutilized influence. This isn’t just about one celebrity or one missed opportunity. It’s about a pattern we see all too frequently in Hollywood: allies when convenient, spectators when it counts.

A Personal Stake in the Matter

With millions of followers hanging on her every post and story, her impact on modern culture and consumer habits is undeniable. Yet, amidst the glitter and glam of her social media empire, there’s a glaring silence on critical issues, most notably, trans rights. In a world where visibility can usher change, Kylie’s silence is louder than ever.

In the fervor of Pride Month, the paths of corporates, celebrities, and all kinds of influencers painting their profiles with rainbows are familiar sights. But the pressing question arises — when the glitter settles, where are these voices, especially the influential ones like Kylie Jenner? The pattern is disappointingly predictable: loud support during Pride but silence when it comes to real advocacy.

Let’s dissect this further. Kylie, as a member of one of the most publicized families in the world, has spoken up for many causes but remains noticeably quiet about trans issues. This is not just about a missed opportunity; it reflects a broader issue within influencer culture where economic gain often eclipses pressing social justice crusades.

Why It Matters

into our hearts with catchy tunes and a compelling personal narrative that charts a progression from a teenage heartthrob to a mature artist wrestling with faith and identity. Yet, amidst his sprawling journey dotted with every type of hurdle a young star could face, there lurks a glaring omission: a clear, unequivocal stance on trans rights.

It’s June, the vibrancy of Pride Month is undeniable, and while pop icons like Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have vocally championed LGBTQ+ rights, Bieber remains notably quiet. This silence speaks volumes in an era where trans individuals are relentlessly marginalized, facing not only social prejudice but also legislative assault. Bieber’s massive platform could enact change, or at the very least, spark conversation, an opportunity woefully missed.

As a trans Latina, the silence of influential figures like Bieber isn’t just disappointing; it’s downright dangerous. It perpetuates a status quo that sees trans women of color sidelined, silenced, and systematically oppressed. Every tune he releases could be a rally cry, every concert, a platform for solidarity. Instead, there’s a void, resonant with the echoes of what could have been powerful advocacy.

Between the Notes: Trans Exclusion in Public Spaces

With every paparazzi flash and runway event, she crafts an image centered around an accessible yet aspirational lifestyle. But beneath the luster of designer labels and celebrated style segments, a poignant question looms: Why does Hailey Bieber remain silent on trans issues, especially during a time where support from high-profile figures could make significant impacts?

As Pride Month parades filled the streets, dazzling with rainbows and cries for equality, Hailey’s platforms remained conspicuously neutral. While other celebrities painted their platforms with messages of inclusivity, Hailey’s reserved stance on trans rights can’t help but whisper (or scream) volumes. This isn’t just about a missed Instagram post or a story left untold. This is about the real lives of trans individuals, especially trans women of color, who find little reflection of themselves in the gleam of the mainstream fashion industry.

Fashioning Silence: A Cloak of Neutrality?

just for its sonic innovation but for its unflinching stance on issues that many choose to ignore. Bad Bunny, a name synonymous with genre-bending tracks and vibrant, provocative visuals, has taken a step that few male superstars dare to, becoming an outspoken advocate for trans rights. But what makes his allyship genuine in a world where support can sometimes be as performative as a stage costume?

A Symphony of Support in a Silence Filled World

During Pride Month, while rainbow flags nonchalantly adorn corporate logos and storefronts, genuinely supportive gestures like those from Bad Bunny resonate deeply within the LGBTQ community. He has not only openly criticized reggaeton’s often homophobic lyrics but has also celebrated the beauty and resilience of the trans community in his music videos and public appearances. Remember his appearance on “The Tonight Show,” where he wore a shirt that read, “They killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt,” highlighting the brutal murder of Alexa Negrón Luciano, a transgender woman in Puerto Rico? That moment was more than performative, it shook the core of Latinx communities, urging them to face the violence faced by trans individuals within their own territories.

From Personal to Systemic, The Wider Struggle
